The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust has exceeded its goal to secure an additional 200,000 hectares under conservation agreements in NSW by 2025, a full year early.
CEO Erin Giuliani said in the last financial year, 69 new conservation agreements were established with private landholders, protecting another 24,249 hectares:
“66 per cent of all our private land conservation agreements are in-perpetuity, adding to existing areas of protected habitats for native species in NSW.
“In the last financial year we paid close to $30 million in annual management payments to manage conservation agreement sites and awarded $1.85 million in conservation grants.
“These funds ensure landowners can manage their agreements areas well to protect, connect and restore biodiversity on private land.
“I’m proud of our team and their accomplishments in the last year and look forward to even more exciting growth in the final year of our current business plan”, Ms Giuliani said.
The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust currently manages private land conservation agreements covering over 2 million hectares of NSW, with over half a million hectares of this being managed in-perpetuity.
